1967 Corvette Roadster LS1 Auto - Kim's Corvette $129,000

1967 Corvette Stingray Roadster / LS1 4L60E Resto-Mod Magazine build

1967 Corvette Stingray Roadster bought in Lake Dallas Texas. We are building this car for my wife. Originally a 327 4 speed car, the original Motor and transmission are long gone. We wrestled with whether to install a nice 1967 427/425HP Big Block Rat motor for a Vintage look and assume the typical big block problems that plagued these magnificent Muscle cars or Go Modern Resto-Mod with a Freshened up 2002 Corvette LS1 with a 4L60E 4 speed Auto Transmission with driveability at speeds capable of 140 MPH+. My wife chose the LS1. We contacted Mark at street and performance and ordered the LS1/4L60E Kit complete with chromed pullies, wiring harness, belts, radiator w/fan, Sanborn A/C all in chrome.

we Removed the frame sand blast it and paint it with Eastwood Chassis Black paint.
 Install the front suspension.
We went to http://www.speeddirect.com/ They sent us

3) The LS1/4L60E only has 37,000 miles from a 2002 Corvette. Now to Disassemble The LS1 pully assemblies and inspect the internal pans for any metal debri or sludge, this motor was low mileage and relatively clean. No damage found so We do not need to rebuild but we will need to replace all of the gaskets that may have been leaking. We replaced the intake, valve cover, oil pan and water pump gaskets, we then prep for paint, we used easy off cooking spray and water. This works great removing any oil and grease and it etches the aluminum and helps to prepare for paint. next you use self etching primer. Now you are ready for paint the block.

4) Mount the motor into the frame. For that we need a repositioning plate fro the motor mounts from www.speedhound.com
the motor mount that we used from Auto Zone.  Mount the motor into the frame. Now to mount the transmission The corvette has a solid cross member that is not removable so we will need to modify it with out hurting the structural integrity and originality of this Old Stingray. We measure the frame to motor mounts then we measure the motor from the mounts to the tranny mount. We used a 5" piece of schedule 40 angle iron measure twice and cut once. Now we re-install the motor and check for fit and it works Great. Now Fred assembles the front drives from our friends in Mena Arkansas at Street and Performance
www.hotrodlane.com Mark and Bear are a wealth of knowledge These parts fit right and are of the highest quality.

Now to install the brakes. we have re-used, cleaned up and installed new bearings in our wheel hubs. Stainless steel brake company SSBS.com has furnished an extremely nice set of Shark bite crossed drilled with slotted cooling stainless steel brake rotors and powder coated corvette red SSBC Brake Calipers. the kit is easy and very functional as well as adding beauty and durability to your resto-rod project.

we used PST (performance suspension technologies) bushings and body mount bushings. Now we mount our 17 X 8 and 18X9 REV American racing chrome plated torque thrust II wheels with Z rated Tires. The car went to Bryant's restoration for paint and body.theya also installed all wiring gages and exhaust.  We used House of colors base BC/CC Paint.
Once finished this car will be world class and aan excellent investment.
